Role: UX & Creative Direction ︱ Client: Duden ︱ Year: 2017-18

The Duden Verlag is the leading publisher for the German language. Its vision was to bring its language knowledge to a broader audience and much closer to its actual application.

Together with the Duden team we conducted research, created product ideas in design thinking workshops, prototyped relevant use cases, evaluated them with potential users, refined them based on feedback and designed the final application including interaction and design guidelines. The result: an instant grammar check and readability analysis for the German-speaking market.

In particular, its split screen design allows users to either focus on their writing or reflect with suggestions for a better application of the German language. In addition, the split screen references Duden’s brand heritage of book printing, which started in 1880 and achieved its 27th edition by now.
